Celebrate Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary at the first ever official Hello Kitty Convention in the world! Hello Kitty Con 2014 is a global gathering of fans and friends to celebrate all things Hello Kitty. Taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Downtown LA’s Little Tokyo, Hello Kitty Con 2014 will offer interactive experiences and events for fans and friends of all ages, including activities, art, exhibits, exclusives, workshops, lectures, panels, sneak peeks, tattoos, food, fun, and many more surprises! Enjoy interactive art installations and photo ops created by artists POSE and Dabs Myla; and instruction from artists Camilla d’Errico (Thursday, Oct 30), Esther Kim (Friday, Oct 31), Dabs Myla (Saturday, Nov 1), and Martin Hsu (Sunday, Nov 2), who will be on hand to lecture & teach Hello Kitty Art Classes. Then, stroll down memory lane in the Hello Kitty Product Retrospective! Sanrio has opened the vaults to display a collection of classic Hello Kitty products from the early days, including the original Hello Kitty coin purse (on display for the first time in the U.S.)!
Lectures and panels are free with your Hello Kitty Con ticket the day-of and available as first-come, first-serve (space permitting). Lectures and panels will be located next to MOCA in the Japanese American National Museum (JANM)’s Center for Democracy room. Ask, listen, and learn everything you ever wanted to know about Hello Kitty from a supergroup of speakers sharing their unique perspectives on Hello Kitty including a first-time Q&A with Hello Kitty head designer, Yuko Yamaguchi, artist and creator of the tokidoki brand, Simone Legno, and many more! Hello Kitty Workshops in the Japanese American National Museum complex (JANM): Kyoichi & Toyo Nerio Education Center, Education Center, and the Democracy Lab, will be held each day at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. $10 materials & supplies fee per work.
The JapanLA Art + Fashion Shop will feature super limited art prints, figures and artist tees from favorite artists including 64 Colors, Buff Monster, Crowded Teeth, Joe Ledbetter, Miss Kika, and more.
Make your way to the Super Supermarket for exclusives, limited edition products, gifts and goodies from special Sanrio partners and collaborators including SEPHORA, JapanLA, Loungefly, Dylan’s Candy Bar, SPAM® Brand, Major League Baseball, Chan Luu, Perfect Square/VIZ Media, and Upper Deck. Plus, five leading tattoo artists have created custom flash artwork & will offer FREE (real!) tattoos at the Hello Kitty Tattoo Shop throughout the convention. All tattoos will be done on a first come, first served basis with daily contests where you can show off your ink and win a prize!
Hello Kitty Con will host a variety of LA’s yummiest food trucks, offering food and beverages to keep your tummy satisfied.
Cosplay with the Kitty!
Each day from 4:30-5pm, come to the main stage at the Friendship Village to view our Cosplay contest! Participants can enter simply by arriving 10 minutes earlier (4:20pm) to line up. Names will be announced and contestants will get a chance to show off their super cute look for the judges.
