Essex Studios is located at the historic Hamilton Tailoring Co. building at the corner of E. McMillan & Essex Place in Walnut Hills, Cincinnati.
The Hamilton Tailoring Co. began converting its Cincinnati location into artist studios in the nineties as the American textile industry started to decline. Currently there are close to 200 studios which house artists, designers, craftsmen and even a church.
Essex Studios Resident Artists include painters, photographers, sculptors, designers, jewelers, wood turners, printers, art therapists, fused glass artists, audio technicians, theatre groups, ceramicists, luxury soap producers, potters, fashion designers and metal workers just to name a few.
Essex Studios is proud to be Cincinnati’s most diverse artist collective and art gallery. All artists, as well as patrons, are welcome into this community space. The Art Walk takes place the first Friday in October and December during 2014. The artists of Essex Studios open their working artist studios at the quarterly Art Walk events. Unlike a museum, which may only feature a few different forms of art, Essex Studios artists present a wide array of diverse media.
There are many wonderful artist collectives and studio complexes in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, but none of the other large group shows exhibit the depth and breadth of art featured at Essex Studios. Their talented artists possess a strong sense of vision which enables them to easily picture the end result at the outset of a project. The beauty of an Essex Art Walk weekend is the unparalleled diversity of artists, artworks and patrons.
One of the unique characteristics of the members in our collective is their diversity of experience. No where else in Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky can you find professional working artists residing in studios adjacent to emerging artists. The diversity of artworks created by Essex Studios artists includes oil paintings, photographs, sculptures, fused & blown glass, wood carvings, metal works, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, graphic design, letter press, silkscreen prints, and artworks created from colored pencils, graphite, spray paint and watercolors. This diversity of talent and experience creates a welcoming space for all artists and art patrons. Affordable art studios for professional and emerging artists are now available to rent at Essex Studios. Conveniently located just over one mile from Downtown Cincinnati, Essex Studios is home to the best artists under one roof. Artist studios and art gallery spaces come in a variety of sizes.
