SPATIAL CONSTRUCTS at NICHOLAS BOWES – ART WALK NEWS

SPATIAL CONSTRUCTS at NICHOLAS BOWES

Nicholas Bowes in Downtown Los Angeles
is excited to present a two-person exhibit by Los Angeles and Oxnard based artists Gladys Rodriguez and Olguin Tapia.  We will be hosting our first Downtown Art Walk party and opening reception Thursday, May 14th from 7pm-10pm. The exhibit runs until June 6th.

The work exhibited is inspired by the artists’ personal journey while living in Los Angeles using a combination of mundane materials like recycled paper, fabric and acrylic paint. Olguin Tapia’s vibrant geometrical paintings are a direct dialogue with the crowded streets and walls covered in street art and graffiti, inspiring an urban color palette that is full of interesting patterns and angles found in the rich architectural spaces in downtown. While in a similar conversation with the city, Gladys Rodriguez’ sculptural paintings carry a more personal interpretation and use a variety of recycled materials like paper and hardened fabric sewn together to create an organic experience that aims to convey her emotions about self using color, shape and pattern.
